Professional Development

The School’s membership in the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) provides a plethora of research based information that strengthens individual independent schools.  NAIS serves as the conduit for pertinent information regarding all facets of a school environment.  The organization is also a proponent of professional development for all school personnel.  Through data analysis, NAIS made a positive correlation between schools that require professional development and schools that are poised for growth.

We compiled the professional development opportunities RWS faculty and staff have participated in since June 2017 and found a wonderful range of topics.  While I am aware of individual endeavors, to see it collectively was inspiring – we have a group of colleagues assembled that exemplifies the love of learning and serves as a role model for our students.

Our faculty and staff participated in more than 30 professional development workshops or webinars in a range of topics from curriculum development to innovation to managing young children.  Six faculty members have logged more than 70 hours of training in the Project Approach with four attending a two-day seminar to experience hands-on learning from the experts.

This year the Independent Schools of the Central States (ISACS) sponsored many training opportunities RWS staff and faculty capitalized upon.  The ISACS conference was especially important as it focused on innovation in the classrooms and unique strategies for teaching.  One faculty member will serve on an ISACS visiting team this spring, the pinnacle of professional development. Administratively, 13 different seminars have been attended to hone skills managing a school including fundraising and digital presence.

Not only does our personnel attend these opportunities, they, too, return to school to share what they learned with colleagues.  You see, we love to learn and serve as mentors for one another.  Ultimately, we strive to acquire new skills so that the school, and your children, will benefit from these best practices and cutting edge innovations.
