Happy Thanksgiving!

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I want to share a very timely story that made my day. Our First Grade students were charged with the writing task of explaining how to cook a turkey. Not only did they focus on the cooking process itself, but they also learned about transition words and “juicy” descriptions. Enjoy and read closely as you might find some culinary tips to use on Thursday.

“There are 3 steps to cook a turkey. First, you catch a turkey and bring it home. Next, you put the turkey in the oven for 30 minutes at 100 degrees. Finally, you eat the turkey with your family. It is fun to cook a turkey!” ~ Benjamin

“There are 3 steps to make a turkey. First, you catch a big turkey in the woods. Next, you cook the turkey in the oven for 5 hours! Finally, you eat the turkey with your family! I feel happy when I cook turkey!” ~ Oliver

“This is how to cook a turkey. First, catch a turkey with a helicopter and a net. Next, cook the turkey in the oven for 20 minutes at 100 degrees. Finally, eat the turkey with family and friends. It makes me happy to cook turkey!” ~ Liam

“There are 3 steps to cook a turkey. First, you catch a turkey with a net. Next, you put it in the oven and you set it for 5 minutes. Finally, you take it out of the oven and you share it with your family. It is fun to cook a turkey!” ~ Hale

“This is how you cook a turkey. First, you go turkey hunting and get the turkey. Next, go home and cook the turkey for 20,000 minutes. Then, take it out and let it cool! Finally, eat it all by yourself and share it with your family. I feel great eating turkey!!!!!!!” ~ Halle Kay

“There are 3 steps to cook a turkey. First, you hunt the turkey. Next, you go home to cook the turkey in the oven at 100,000 degrees Fahrenheit for 14 minutes. Finally, you eat the turkey. That is how you cook a turkey.” ~ Cyrus
