Happy New Year!  The Senior Kindergartners came back to school with so much energy and seem so glad to be back!  Many stories were shared about all of the exciting adventures and happenings that took place over the holidays!  I am so happy to hear that everyone had such a wonderful time!  As we transition back to the school routines, the class will be working on some fun, snowy activities this month.

In Reading, the students will…

  • Listen to the story, Humphrey, the Lost Whale
  • Work on classification in reading
  • Classify sea animals into groups by sizes of large and small  
  • Read and discuss various sea animals
  • Work on beginning blends in words
  • Continue to differentiate short vowel sounds in the middle of words
  • Count syllables in words
  • Recognize and count phonemes (sounds) in words

In Math, the students will…

  • Compare numbers up to 20
  • Make two to three groups of numbers of objects that add up to 20
  • Wrap up the Math unit numbers 0-20 next week
  • Begin the next unit about solid and flat shapes

Reminders:

  • Library Books are due back on Monday
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Friday, Jan. 22nd
