P.E. students in February celebrated heart health awareness month through physical activity!
Physical Education classes celebrated Heart Health Awareness Month through the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs. Students raised money and awareness of heart disease all month long through the American Heart Association’s nationwide program. Students culminated these events with their jump day which they spent learning about jumping rope and talking about cardiovascular health. Students learned how to swing the jump rope, proper grip, handle, along with forwards, backwards and partner jumps.
This month we had a basketball unit and learned the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and defending. Students played games such as “bump, pass and shoot,” “shooting stars,” and knockout. Students in Fifth and Sixth Grade also played in a basketball tournament at Chesterfield Day School and won three games! Students in EC, PK, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten also worked on their balance and tumbling skills during the gymnastics unit. Students had the opportunity to do obstacle course challenge stations as well this month.
