October 2018

The Second Graders have worked so hard this month! They studied native prairie plants at the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center, celebrated Roald Dahl’s birthday, and enhanced their leadership skills with their Pre-K Buddies.

The Second Graders have been learning:

  • Spelling words with short and long vowels
  • Building stamina in the length of time they can read independently
  • Reading for details
  • Answering questions in complete sentences
  • Listening to stories to enhance their auditory comprehension skills
  • Identifying the naming and action part of a sentence
  • Distinguishing between the four types of sentences: telling, commanding, asking, and exclaiming
  • Adding more details to our daily writing
  • Using conjunctions and prepositions
  • Adding and subtracting three digit numbers with regrouping
  • Studying math facts to increase automatic recall
  • Identifying places on maps
  • Understanding the differences between urban, suburban, and rural

If you’re a prospective parent reading our website and class updates,
we hope to see you at our upcoming Open House on Tues. Nov. 6 from 9-11 a.m. And I look forward to seeing all my current parents at Conferences on Friday, October 12.
