October 2016

Well, we've made it through the first full month of school and everything is falling into place.  We got to start this week by having a Mad Science assembly!  A few of our 4th graders even got to be helpful volunteers!

We've wrapped up our first book for the trimester, The BFG, and got to do a lot of fun things with the book.  We've made good progress in our Singapore Math while reinforcing our math facts.  In fact, we're almost ready to move on to chapter 3, but we have to finish up learning how to multiply using array and area models.

In writing we have started our first full essay, which is an object perspective piece.  The students all brought in objects from home that are important to them and will now begin the process of writing a story of how the object came into their possession.  The prewriting process has started, and soon there will be rough drafts to follow.  Social Studies has been a ton of fun, as we've had a number of different smaller projects that build skills that will transfer to a bigger project.  The class is making a Missouri A-Z presentation using Google Slides.  Each slide will have a fun fact about something within the state of Missouri.  By the end of the trimester, they will be presenting their work together to show off what they have learned.  It's a lot of fun and there's a ton of information to soak up!
