October 1, 2016

The Second Graders at Rohan Woods had a great month of September! There has been so much learning and fun going on in our classroom. The students began Electives; some are even learning how to play the ukulele! The Second Graders have been excellent role models for their First Grade and Pre-K Buddies. They've enjoyed reading, playing, and making crafts together. We are so excited to see what great things October will bring us!

Here are some areas of curriculum the Second Graders covered over the past month:

  • Distinguishing between telling, asking, and exclaiming sentences
  • Editing work for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
  • Writing in great detail about our weekends
  • Reading for a sustained amount of time to increase comprehension skills and fluency
  • Answering comprehension questions in complete sentences
  • Spelling words with short and long vowel sounds
  • Adding and subtracting three-digit numbers with regrouping
  • Finding key words in word problems to determine whether to add or subtract
  • Using an atlas to understand the geography of the United States
