The Second Graders had a busy month in October! They visited Shaw Nature Reserve to learn more about native prairie habitats. The Second Graders were visited by the Glendale Fire Department to learn more about fire safety. They enjoyed playing outside with their Buddies and friends. In addition to all of this, there was still plenty of learning going on!

Here are some things the Second Graders learned during the month of October:

  • Listening to stories to increase audio comprehension
  • Reading with expression in their voices
  • Identifying, reading, and writing r-controlled vowels 
  • Distinguishing between common and proper nouns
  • Creating a graphic organizer for writing stories
  • Adding details to their writing
  • Editing sentences for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
  • Making compound words
  • Multiplying and dividing
  • Determining what math operation to use in word problems
