As the school year comes to an end, the students are continuing to strengthen their artistic skills and improve their knowledge of the Fine Arts. Many classes are completing the year with units focusing on three-dimensional art. Students practice hand building and pottery throwing techniques to create successful works-of-art. New terminology is added to their improving art vocabulary. Words like wedge, score, slip, coil, slab and fire are applied consistently during the weeks clay sculpture is studied. 
As always thank you for your continued support of the art program. I was overwhelmed with joy the evening of Art Show night. It was wonderful seeing so many families in attendance.
-JK will complete the year creating colorful kites and taking them for a flight outside in the open park space by school.
-SK read the book Round Trip and are making a cityscape inspired by the artwork in the story.
-First Grade have been drawing with scissors. Cutting free-form, abstract shapes in the style of artist Henri Matisse, students will arrange these cut-outs and assemble by improving overlapping technique to complete their works-of-art.
-Second/Third Graders are completing their three-dimensional Ocean scenes and will finish the year working with found objects and wood scraps, transforming these common objects into Assemblage.
-Fourth Graders completed their Pottery unit working on the wheel, improving their throwing technique and successfully creating a bowl/cylinder shape. Their final unit of the year will focus on the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Observing her large, botanical paintings, students will select one to reproduce.
-Working on their loom, Fifth Graders are weaving several techniques with yarn and other fibers.
-Sixth Graders will complete their Aboriginal painting unit and finish the year working with clay. These unique puzzle piece shapes will be on display for all to admire at graduation
