Welcome back to school! The Second Graders are off to a great start since the New Year! They began the week by adding vocabulary instruction to their curriculum. The Second Graders also enjoyed playing math games with their Third Grade friends, expanding their leadership skills with their Pre-K Buddies, and taking on more personal responsibility as we start the second half of the school year.

Here are some other things the Second Graders practiced this week:

  • Spelling /or/ words with -or, -ore, -oar, and -ar
  • Distinguishing between singular possessive and plural possessive nouns
  • Writing in detail about their winter break
  • Identifying and writing contractions
  • Creating flash cards to study new vocabulary words
  • Reading for details
  • Listening to stories to enhance auditory comprehension skills
  • Measuring using a meter stick and a ruler
  • Comparing measurements
  • Using the iPads to practice math facts

Looking ahead:

  • Wednesday, January 13 – Lori Strauss, guest speaker at RWS 6:00-7:15 pm
  • Monday, January 18 – No School, MLK Jr. Day
  • Friday, January 22 – No School, Parent-Teacher Conferences

I'm looking forward to a great second half of the year with you and your child!

Sincerely,
Meaghan Knobbe
Second Grade Teacher
