Fourth Grade Weekly Update

The Fourth Graders have been very busy. We enjoyed a special Halloween parade and party with friends, buddies, and parents. Thank you to our room mothers for making our Halloween celebration such fun!

In math, we have been working on multi-digit multiplication and division concepts. Students have been participating in a variety of activities to strengthen their multiplication facts and experience a variety of strategies as they work through the algorithms.

The Fourth Graders are developing their own sense of responsibility for applying those which work best for them and asking for guidance when needed.

In language arts we have completed the pronoun unit and chapter test.

Our new topic is adjectives and their place in the sentence. In writing, we are working on paragraphs with a strong topic sentence, relevant details, and a clincher.

Our social studies focus is ancient Egypt. Our activities this week centered on important figures in Egyptian history and how they influenced the culture.

The Fourth and Fifth Graders spent the last two Wednesday mornings at the Saint Louis Art Museum, participating in an the Arts in the Basic Curriculum program. They experienced the Language of Art in which they learned more about the creative movement, stories, and performances intertwined within art. During the Art on Edge program, students experienced what art is, where it has been and where it could be going.

Many thanks to Mrs. Burkert and parents for these special learning opportunities outside the classroom.
