Fourth Grade Weekly Update

Our first week back after spring break has been a busy one! Our new math unit focuses on adding and subtracting decimal numbers. Students demonstrate their understanding through regrouping activities and the use of manipulatives. This unit applies the concepts studied in our previous chapter about fraction and decimal concepts.

Missouri history has been our focus of study in social studies this week.  Our lessons included hands-on activities about the geography of our state, and researching the history of the state capitol. Students also participated in small group activities as they gained a deeper understanding about the political leaders of our state and their specific jobs.  We all enjoyed the annual trip to Jefferson City to tour the Capitol building and the Governor’s mansion.

The Fourth Graders started their ERB testing this week.  Please help your child be prepared to start each day at their best by getting plenty of sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and bringing a healthy snack to school.

The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Graders will start practicing with the Modern American Dance Company (MADCO) for the Books in Motion presentation of the novel Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein.  Their presentation will be a part of Fine Arts Day on the afternoon of May 3rd.  Be sure to mark this day on your calendar, and more information will follow as the date approaches.
