The Fourth Graders enjoyed assisting their Junior Kindergarten buddies with Old Newsboys Day responsibilities. The students sold newspapers to parents, staff, and fellow students as they arrived at school on Thursday, November 20th. Old Newsboys donations are used to help local children’s charities.
Our math studies focused on multi step word problems. Students learned more about how to apply the bar method of creating a visual representation to work through the steps. Students continue to practice multiplication facts and work through more complex algorithms.
We just completed the literature book Loser by Jerry Spinelli. Everyone participated in a brainstorming session to create a database of details and examples of events in the novel. Students are writing an essay detailing their information and supporting their choice of whether or not they feel the main character is a loser.
Every year, the Fourth and Fifth Grade students perform community service for the Rohan Woods community. This helps the students give back to the community that supports them in their quest to learn. This year, students will be hosting two Movie Nights on December 4th and 11th. The students will be participating in a variety of leadership positions throughout the evening as they help fellow students enjoy these fun nights. Please let me know if you have any questions about your child’s responsibilities for these events.
The annual Holiday Program is Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 pm. Students should be in the classroom by 6:15 pm, dressed and ready to perform. We are all excited about this years’ performance. Thank you to Mr. Deming for all of his hard work in creating this year’s show!
