Early Childhood Monthly Update 1/1/18

We had a great December in the EC classroom!! Everyone had a blast making themselves into elves, decorating gingerbread houses, reading tons of holiday books, and talking about different decorations we have in our houses.

The students had a great time listening to books about Christmas and Hanukkah during December.  When we read a book, we would try to see what was the same about the holidays and what was different.  This was tricky but we did learn that both holidays have lots of family, both holidays include presents, and both holidays have special food.  The students really enjoyed a book called That’s Not Santa; it’s about Santa losing his red suit and all the different outfits he tries on to see if they work.  Every time he tried on an outfit that wasn’t his red suit the students would yell “That’s not Santa!”  I think their favorite part was yelling in class.  The big project these weeks were making gingerbread houses.  Everyone got a turn to decorate a house and everyone worked super hard.  It is a wonderful fine motor activity and activity in listening because they aren’t allowed to eat any of the candy, it has to go on their house.  The students were all very excited to get to show their parents all the hard work they did on the houses when they were finally able to take them home.  We are going to be learning about winter and snow in January.  Lets hope the weather cooperates and brings us some snow to play in soon!
