Students have been very busy in the science lab at RWS…

JK

  • visited the science lab to learn procedures, visit the bees, and go to the garden
  • read What is Science? and hypothesized about what science is and what a scientist does

SK

  • visited the science lab to learn procedures, visit the bees, and go to the garden

1st

  • ​students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
  • completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
  • experimented with scientific tools to see what physical properties they help scientists identify 

2nd/3rd

  • ​students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
  • completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
  • visited the RWS native prairie habitat in preparation for a field trip to the prairie at Litzsinger Road Ecology Center
  • learned what a native prairie is and why they are important

4th

  • ​students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
  • completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
  • began unit on light and space
  • experimented with how light changes speed in water and when it travels through different mediums
  • learned the three types of light

Middle School

  • ​students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
  • traveled to New Mexico to visit Cottonwood Gulch, Chaco Canyon, and whitewater raft 

Garden

  • students enjoyed seeing how the seeds they planted in the spring have grown over the summer

Observation Honeybee Hive

  • bees returned from their "vacation" at our beekeepers hive and seem to be healthy and happy
