Students have been very busy in the science lab at RWS…
JK
- visited the science lab to learn procedures, visit the bees, and go to the garden
- read What is Science? and hypothesized about what science is and what a scientist does
SK
- visited the science lab to learn procedures, visit the bees, and go to the garden
1st
- students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
- completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
- experimented with scientific tools to see what physical properties they help scientists identify
2nd/3rd
- students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
- completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
- visited the RWS native prairie habitat in preparation for a field trip to the prairie at Litzsinger Road Ecology Center
- learned what a native prairie is and why they are important
4th
- students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
- completed a series of hands on STEM activities (making a parachute, building the strongest bridge, and designing an "army man" launcher)
- began unit on light and space
- experimented with how light changes speed in water and when it travels through different mediums
- learned the three types of light
Middle School
- students worked on learning how the scientific method works by doing the "Saving Sam" experiment
- traveled to New Mexico to visit Cottonwood Gulch, Chaco Canyon, and whitewater raft
Garden
- students enjoyed seeing how the seeds they planted in the spring have grown over the summer
Observation Honeybee Hive
- bees returned from their "vacation" at our beekeepers hive and seem to be healthy and happy
