This month we will spend as much time as possible outdoors! Our focus is on track & field events. Students are working to increase their speed with sprint/recovery runs, good starts. and proper running form. Younger students play chase games like 'Spiders and Flies' and "Shadow Tag' and they will…
…learn to run a fair race. Students already understand the concepts of starting line, takeoff, finish line, and the dreaded false start (actually, it makes everyone laugh!). Congratulatory high fives and knuckle bumps are a big part of our day.
Older students are preparing for track meets. Third-Sixth Graders will travel to away meets this month. Our Junior Kindergartners-Second graders will compete in mock meets during class. Some of our favorite workouts include timed 50m runs, relay races and high jumping. We'll play a variety of fun games like 'Running Tic-Tac-Toe','Rock, Paper, Scissors', 'Capture the Flag', and 'Secret Spy' to increase endurance and push everyone to run their hardest.
When we are indoors due to weather, we'll work on standing long jump, high jump, and basic tumbling skills.
Upcoming events:
